What are the important characteristics of Christmas shopping which e-business owners should understand and plan for?  Getting your e-business strategy right during this important period will increase sales at an important time.  As more and more business is conducted online, then getting your ecommerce strategy right is both an opportunity and a threat.

Take that from some ecommerce consultants...

Our three pre-Christmas trading tips are:

  1. Tip 1 - Make sure your online & offline customer experience ties together: For those with both online and High Street presences, it is extremely important to make sure that customers get the same experience using both channels.  It is relatively easy to introduce conflict between these and it will be picked up.  Those with both online and high street have an opportunity to drive additional business tactically when online delivery is no longer possible but web ordering and in-store pick up is still available.  This can give you a competitive advantage if you are agile enough to do this.
  2. Tip 2 - Mobile is where it is at: Customer user experience for mobile and tablet should be at least as good as for desktop becuase that is how more and more customers are accessing your site.  Browsing is moving mobile at high speed - we have been observing this via statistics from our own customers - and they need to have a postive user experience in these smaller form factors.  We have talked previously about web responsive sites - these are becoming more and more important as there is increasing variation in mobile and tablet sizes.
  3. Tip 3 - Link activity now for Christmas with Boxing Day sales: You should be planning now and using your CRM systems to ensure that customers who buy for Christmas are identified and turned onto your Boxing Day sales propositions.  You need to be activating loyalty through activity-based messages in the run up to Christmas so you can maximise performance during the sales period too.  Customers are increasingly savvy and there is evidence that they purchase fewer items from one seller (as they do more research adn purchase from more places).  You need to provide good reasons for them to buy from you again.

We hope you appreciate these tips from an ecommerce consultancy and have integrated them into your site well before the Christmas sales rush comes along.
