If you are going to make social media activity into something that delivers leads on a regular basis, then you will have to increase your social reach and have lots of people follow you.  Essentially, it is becoming more active on social media to increase awareness of e-commerce site.  But, more than that (and I personally know someone who has bought a huge amount of Facebook followers who are worthless), you need to focus and attract the right followers.

To help with that, we have pulled together five ways to attract more followers and build your reach:

  1. Optimise your social presence:  Make sure the profiles for your social media accounts are complete and that they include clear descriptions of your business, your logo and your website URL.  Also, make sure you are also optimizing your tweets, Facebook posts, and LinkedIn company status updates with keywords which could help you get found in search.
  2. Promote your social presence: Put social sharing buttons on as many pages of your website as possible, on your blog, in print advertising, on your business cards, in your email marketing messages and in your email signature boilerplates. Many social media sites now have official 'follow' buttons you can include on your website and blog.
  3. Share good content: It's not sufficient to promote your presence. You need to make your presence something that's worth following. Make sure your tweets, Facebook posts, and LinkedIn updates consist of valuable, engaging content. Just like your blogging, avoid too much product-focused content, and instead, make your social updates consist of educational content that has the potential to attract more fans and followers.
  4. Add social sharing buttons: Just as you should be promoting your social presence in as many places as possible, you should also be enabling your site visitors and email subscribers to share your content with their personal networks as easily as possible.
  5. Offer incentives for new followers: Research shows that 58% of Facebook users expect exclusive offers from business pages, so consider offering exclusive promotions and offers available only to your social media followers. For example, create an offer available only to Twitter followers that can't be obtained elsewhere. Make it so that users need to follow you in order to receive specific perks.

Much of the above can be achieved using inbound marketing tools and automation software - such as HubSpot or even HootSuite - but there are things that you can do yourself too.
