If you run a webstore then attracting customers is hugely important.  Visitors become customers.  So, what are your options to increase traffic?  Because if you increase traffic sufficiently then that will end up as higher sales (and higher profits).

Webstores attract more traffic - the options

Here are the best options to increase traffic for your e-commerce store:

  1. Advertise: there are a number of options here but all involve paying money to drive clicks to your site - be that advertising your website address on a poster advertising (or even on TV if your budget is deep) to pay-per-click campaigns.  However, what is clear is that budgets are spend very quickly paying this way.  There is definitely more control over targeting these days but it is still a bit of a lottery.
  2. Use Social Media: It’s not enough to produce great content and hope that people find it – you have to be proactive. One of the best ways to increase traffic to your website is to use social media channels to promote your content. Twitter is ideal for short, snappy (and tempting) links, whereas Google+ promotion can help your site show up in personalized search results and seems especially effective in B2B niches.
  3. Blogging: content marekting is one of the hottest marketing topics just now.  Having a good content marketing strategy which includes blogging, long term keywords and social media marketing will drive search volumes to your site now and in the future.  This is even true for B2B content marketing too.  It is the most cost-effective marketing strategy currently available.
  4. SEO: Do you actually think that SEO is dead and buried? Time to think again. Optimising your content for search engines is still a valuable and worthwhile practice.  Are you creating internal links to new content? What about meta descriptions? Optimising for on-page SEO doesn’t have to take ages, and it will help boost your organic traffic but it is unlikely to solve all your traffic problems by itself.
  5. Be mobile and fast: The days when internet browsing was done exclusively on desktop PCs are long gone. Today, more people than ever before are using mobile devices to access the web, and if you force your visitors to pinch and scroll their way around your site, you’re basically telling them to go elsewhere. Additionally, you must make sure your site is fast - if not, then you will again ask your browsers to leave.

Is there anything further that can be done?

Professional help in this will make a big difference.  Firstly, you might consider using a content marketing agency to drive your inbound marketing.  They will be able to help with all the technical aspects of optimising your content and, additionally, they will create content and campaigns for you.

You then should consider using good content marketing software.  We have used WordPress and HubSpot.  Of those HubSpot is by far the better and can be used to drive greater traffic through a fully integrated inbound marketing approach.  That would be our recommendation.

Lastly, a company should have a content marketing plan to deliver its content in a programmed, considered way.  Without a plan and a consistent, considered approach, content marketing will falter and performance will not improve.
